It’s been 10 months since Tom Brady reached an agreement to be a partial owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, but it has yet to be approved. The seven-time Super Bowl champion has spoken publicly about his intention to be part of the ownership group, but nothing is official.

It was expected that the deal wouldn’t be approved during this week’s NFL annual league meetings, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters that everything is still status quo.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a delay,” Goodell said Tuesday. “We go through a very thorough process on all ownership transfers. We’re just going through our process. We’ve been in touch with their side and the Raiders. I think it’s been making progress.”

In order for the deal to be approved, 24 of the NFL owners must approve it. But in October of 2023 things seemed to hit a snag with the deal when The Washington Post reported the league would likely reject the deal due to Raiders owner Mark Davis offering the minority stake to the legendary quarterback at a steep discounted price.

But after Goodell’s press conference Tuesday, it appears things are still on track to get done. It’s just taking a while.

In an interview with The Associated Press in 2023, Brady opened up about why he chose to invest in the Raiders, and what his role will be once all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed.

“I’ll be playing a very passive role. This is something that I’m interested in doing for the rest of my life,” Brady told the AP. “This is not something that I’m into it for a year or two years. You know, I’ve got a lot of responsibility with my FOX job, which I take very seriously. But if I’m looking over the course of my life, to have the opportunity to be involved in the NFL is a dream come true. And if I could help the NFL and continue to contribute in a positive way, then you know, that’s been a very enjoyable part of my life.”

The Raiders will welcome Brady’s former New England Patriots team to Allegiant Stadium in Week 6 of the 2024 season.

Brady has been busy during retirement. The 46-year-old also has an ownership stake in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, and will begin his broadcasting career in the 2024 NFL season when he joins FOX as its lead analyst.
