When Patrick Bamford played for Leeds United against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday, 4 October, did he deserve to be suspended? That is the point raised by Darren Witcoop.

Asmir Begovic, the Rs’ custodian, was sent in stoppage time for a foul on the forward as the Whites won 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Crysencio Summerville.

On Wednesday, the Sunday Mirror writer Witcoop tweeted that the 30-year-old had undoubtedly “dived,” but that the Bosnian goalkeeper’s response to the red card may have “landed him in trouble” and that he might face a suspension just for that.

“Watching Asmir Begovic dismissal once more, Bamford ‘the cheat,’ as QPR pundit described him, has definitely taken a plunge. I’m not sure if [he] could be suspended from the FA for it,” he stated.

However, even if Begovic succeeds, his response to the red card could bring him into problems and result in a suspension.Patrick Bamford is proving doubters wrong as Leeds striker helps make up for leaky defence

Harsh
Bamford has received some harsh criticism in the wake of this event because it is easy to see that he was merely attempting to avoid being hit by Begovic’s high challenge.

Even though there is no contact, the Bosnian may have seriously hurt the forward if the forward hadn’t moved due to the way he rushed out to collect the ball.

It shouldn’t have been a foul in the first place, so there isn’t a clear cut case for a red card, but that doesn’t mean the Englishman dived.

To think that Bamford might be suspended is absurd, to put it mildly, and it’s probable that people are just hopping on the bandwagon because he isn’t the most well-liked player given his prior behaviour.

However, in this case, he wasn’t trying to cheat and shouldn’t be condemned for merely attempting to avoid what may have been a deadly challenge.
