Despite his hat-trick against Burnley in Tottenham’s last match, journalist Paul Brown believes Heung-min Son will not stay as a number nine for long.

The strain of filling Harry Kane’s shoes has clearly begun to weigh heavily on Richarlison’s shoulders, who appears to be lacking confidence in front of goal at the moment.

Despite the fact that the Brazilian scored his first goal of the season in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup defeat at Fulham, Ange Postecogolou started Son upfront at Turf Moor and played Manor Solomon on the left of the attacking trio.

The strategy paid off, with Son scoring a hat-trick and Solomon assisting on two of the South Korean’s three goals.

With the arrival of the versatile Brennan Johnson at Tottenham on transfer deadline day, Richarlison will have even greater competition, and the Brazilian may fear a lengthy stint on the bench.

Can Heung-min Son step in for Harry Kane?
Brown, on the other hand, believes that the former Everton man will get his chance to prove his naysayers wrong sooner rather than later.

“I would like to think that seeing Son score a hat-trick in his position would light a fire under him and give him that kind of kick that maybe he needs,” the journalist said when questioned about Richarlison’s chances of playing time.

“I think he needs to show he can respond to that kind of competition, because I don’t think Son is going to stay at number nine for the season just because he scored a hat-trick in that game, which may surprise some people.”

“I believe Richarlison will return to this team at some point, sooner or later.” And that the manager will give him a chance to show that he can score goals from that position and be the player they expected to sign when they signed him.”

Spurs Online Opinion

I fully expect Son to receive a run of games in the number nine role following his hat trick against the Clarets. With Tottenham not playing in Europe this season and now out of the Carabao Cup, I don’t see Richarlison receiving many starts in the coming months.
