There is a lot of bitterness in the Barcelona camp despite the fact that the January transfer window is officially closed after the team was unable to sign Lucas Bergvall on deadline day.

The talented Swedish midfielder, who had even paid a visit to the team’s training camp, was on the verge of signing a contract with Djurgarden, and the Catalans were nearly there.

However, Bergvall abruptly changed his mind on deadline day and chose to sign with Tottenham Hotspur, shocking everyone at Barcelona.

Bergvall’s Tottenham transfer is justified by Djurgarden.

Bergvall’s family is thought to have played a major role in his decision to join Tottenham, believing that England would be the best fit for the midfield talent.

Even though there were no indications or rumors that Djurgarden had even discussed a deal with the English team, they had nonetheless committed to a deal with Spurs.

Days after Bergvall’s unexpected transfer to Spurs, Djurgarden has now provided an explanation of how the last-minute deal was completed.

Djurgarden’s sports director, Bosse Andersson, has stated that the Swedish team was in constant contact with Spurs, but the discussions were not made public until much later.

Andersson said Fotbollskanalen, “We were quietly negotiating with Tottenham, but the media didn’t find out until much later.”

Djurgarden cost about €10 million to sign with Tottenham. He will stay at Djurgarden until the conclusion of the season.

Barcelona was prepared to make the same offer to Djurgarden and even had an agreement ready. The Catalans actually intended to announce the signing on the day of the transfer deadline.

Barça will, however, try to forget about this lost chance and focus on other midfield players available.
