Miami will welcome one of the nation’s top prospects and one of the most sought-after players on the Hurricanes’ roster this season.
DJ Pickett, a 5-star cornerback from Tampa (Fla.) Zephyrhills, has landed in South Florida on an unofficial visit this weekend.
Five-star cornerbackDJ Pickett is being courted by teams all across the country but Florida State is doing their best to try and keep the Zephyrhills, Florida product home.
That interest is mutual as he revealed to On3’s Chad Simmons that they are one of the six schools he is focused on. The other contenders are Florida, Oregon, Miami, LSU, and Georgia.
The Seminoles have been recruiting him for a long time and that relationship, plus their success last season, has them in his top group.
“Florida State is a school I am comfortable at,” he told Simmons. “Since the offer in 8th grade, their recruitment has been consistent. Coach Mike Norvell has always been real and Coach Pat Surtain is one of the best defensive backs coaches in all of college football. Then you see how they played last season, they had one of the best defenses in the country and I think Florida State is on track to compete for a national championship.”
While he has not yet set a date, he is working to schedule an official visit to Florida State during the 2024 season. He has already scheduled official visits to Oregon, Miami, LSU, and Georgia and is working to set one up with Florida as well.
He is looking to attend games at several of his contenders before he commits during his senior season, and he already has a date in mind after nearly committing over the summer.
“The plan now is to be patient. I will take a couple of visits this spring, the four official visits in June, then a couple early in the season and commit on Oct. 6. We have an off week that week and that is the date I am planning to make my decision.”
