After suffering their worst league loss ever at the hands of Newcastle, Sheffield United has no imminent intentions to fire Paul Heckingbottom.

On their return to the Premier League, the Blades were humiliated by a rampaging Newcastle, but Heckingbottom’s position is presently secure.

Even this humiliating loss won’t alter the board’s stance, despite rumours tying former manager Chris Wilder to a Bramall Lane comeback.

Heckingbottom responded, “Yes, 100 percent,” when asked if he will manage the team in the following match.

“From the looks of it, this might be a motif right now. I am unable to respond to any of those questions; nevertheless, you should ask the correct person regarding the game, the players, and my department.

Heckingbottom, who led the team to promotion last year, has presided over a hard week following the passing of women’s player Maddy Cusack.

The team was “devastated” by the passing of the 27-year-old midfielder, who also worked for the club’s marketing division.

And the boss acknowledges that he will be relieved to put a terrible week behind him.

There were moving pre-game tributes to Cusack, and Heckingbottom noted that there were tears on the field before to the game.

But despite our best efforts, we were unable to successfully cap off a particularly trying week. Everyone at the club has had a difficult week, which we would all like to be over.

Howe reaction

By winning their largest away game and becoming the first Premier League team to have eight different players score in a match, the Magpies changed the course of history.

After a challenging start to the season, Eddie Howe’s team now appears to be clicking and played excellently following their midweek Champions League trip to AC Milan.

The most satisfying aspect for the manager was that they continued to press forward as they piled on the goals in the second half.

It has been a fantastic week for us, Howe remarked. You have football, then.

Before the Brentford game, we were aware of its significance. It was a pivotal point in the week, and it was wonderful to see us back at our best today. We have some excellent players and a very difficult schedule to start the season, but today we were ruthless and continued trying to score, and that’s what matters. I never doubted us in the final third.

“We admire Paul Heckingbottom, Sheffield United, and the work he has done here, but we just had to do our part, keep working, and attempt to score goals.

“We were unaware of any record-related information during the game. We were simply attempting to maintain the mentality and drive we want in every game while encouraging the players to keep scoring goals.

“When people come see us play, we want to attack effectively, amuse them, and provide good value. We constantly want to score, and it is one of our key principles.

“With top-quality players, results like this can happen, but very rarely, that is why we will enjoy it tonight.

“You hope this ignites something in us and we try to repeat, not the scoreline, but the performance on a regular basis. That is our aim, but the Premier League is very difficult.”
