NBA slap Russell Westbrook with hefty fine: What did the Nuggets star do?

Russel Westbrook’s wallet is a little lighter after he was handed a $35,000 fine by the NBA for an incident during Monday’s loss to the New York Knicks.

The Denver Nuggets fell to a 145-118 loss, and the frustrating result clearly got to the 36-year-old as he appeared to give the middle finger to the Knicks bench.

That didn’t sit well with the NBA, who announced they were fining Westbrook for an “obscene gesture.”

“Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook has been fined $35,000 for making an obscene gesture on the playing court in the fourth quarter of the Nuggets’ 145-118 loss to the New York Knicks on Nov. 25 at Ball Arena, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations,” read a statement on the NBA website.

Despite the defeat and fine, Westbrook was one of the few bright spots for the Nuggets in the loss.

He finished the game with a team-high 27 points, with 24 of them coming in the fourth quarter.

It isn’t the first time Westbrook has been fined by the league, as he has had to forfeit over $500,000 over the years, with many of his fines due to technical fouls.

estbrook is in his 17th season in the NBA and is averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 17 games this season.
