Saskatchewan Roughriders’ QB named CFL’s top performer for August by PFF

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Trevor Harris has been named the CFL’s top performer for the month of August by Pro Football Focus (PFF) with a grade of 90.9.

The 38-year-old native of Waldo, Ohio completed 72.1 percent of his passes for 545 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions over two starts after returning from a knee injury. PFF’s honourable mentions on offence were Edmonton Elks’ quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and fellow Saskatchewan quarterback Shea Patterson, both of whom earned grades of 85.8.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ defensive back Tyrell Ford was named PFF’s defensive player of the month with a grade of 90.6. He played 132 defensive snaps during the month of August, making two defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, two interceptions, and two pass knockdowns. PFF’s defensive honourable mentions were defensive back Royce Metchie (89.2) and defensive lineman Ralph Holley (88.2), both of whom play for the Toronto Argonauts.

The Edmonton Elks had the highest-graded offensive line of the month, earning a group grade of 73.5. Left tackle Martez Ivey had a score of 77.1, followed by right tackle Brett Boyko (74.7) and right guard Shane Richards (69.7).

The CFL partnered with PFF for the first time ahead of the 2023 season. The American company uses game footage to review every player on the field and grades their individual performances on a scale from zero to 100.

The league unveils the top-graded players from PFF each week. Offensive and defensive players must play a minimum of 25 snaps to be eligible and special teams players must play at least 10. Ties are broken by the number of snaps played.
