Janet Jackson Opens Up About the Pain of Reliving Brother Michael Jackson’s Death

Janet Jackson, the 58-year-old pop icon known for hits like “Got ’til It’s Gone,” has opened up about the poignant memories of her late brother, Michael Jackson, that accompany her on her current “Together Again” world tour. Michael, the legendary “Bad” singer, passed away in 2009 at the age of 50, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry and his family.

Janet’s tour features a powerful performance of her 1995 single “Scream,” a duet with Michael, enhanced by video footage of her late brother. This visual and auditory tribute serves as a moving reminder of their close bond. In a candid interview with the BBC, Janet shared the emotional impact of this experience, saying, “Listening to him every night, seeing him, remembering us.”

The song “Scream” was co-written by Janet and Michael in his New York apartment, and it holds deep personal significance for her. Reflecting on this collaboration, she recalls the creative process and the challenges Michael faced at the time. “So (I relive) that whole journey, listening to him sing it (and remembering) what he was going through at that time. And just me being his little sister, always by his side, and being that support system. That’s always been my role,” Janet expressed.

“Scream” was the lead single from Michael’s ninth album, *HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I*, released in 1995, and was also featured on Janet’s 2009 greatest hits album, *Number Ones*. The track was a defiant response to the relentless media scrutiny and bizarre rumors surrounding Michael in the mid-1990s, including tales of sleeping in an oxygen chamber and acquiring a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles.

During this tumultuous period, Michael also faced serious accusations. In 1993, he was accused of molestation, which he settled out of court. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted, but allegations resurfaced after his death in 2009.

Janet’s “Together Again” tour is set to arrive in the UK in September, with performances in London, Birmingham, and Manchester. In October, she will continue her tour with a show in Glasgow, bringing her heartfelt tribute to fans across the globe. Through this tour, Janet not only celebrates her musical legacy but also honors the enduring memory of her brother, Michael, ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
