Pink Explains Why is Pink piised off with Taylor Swift? Australian snub sparks possible pop feud
Pop veteran Pink, 44, was reportedly miffed at the amount of attention Taylor Swift received in Australia earlier this year.
The Get The Party Started singer – birth name Alecia Beth Moore – landed Down Under in March and performed at Sydney’s Accor Stadium before heading to Brisbane and Townsville for more stadium gigs.
Around the same time, Swift, 34, was also in town for the Australian leg of her long-running and record-breaking The Eras Tour, with former Disney star Sabrina Carpenter opening for the Blank Space hitmaker in Sydney’s Accor Stadium and MCG in Melbourne.
Globally, the focus was undoubtedly on Swift as she geared up to release her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, amid intense interest in her love life, with Pink performing her sell-out tour dates with little fanfare.
It’s since been claimed Pink was “p***ed off” by the lack of media coverage for her stint in the country, compared to how much attention Swift got. Speaking on Nova’s Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel on Wednesday, Australian singer Sam Fischer said he “felt sorry” for Pink being in the country at the same time as Swift.
“Did you think now everyone’s money is going into like very, very few piles now,” host Tim Blackwell asked, to which Fischer replied: “Just Taylor Swift… but they need the cash I get it!” Blackwell expressed sympathy for Pink and added: “Pink is out here riding her bike around the Opera House saying “I’m here too!”,’ he added.
“It’s kind of funny everyone’s talking about Beyonce and Taylor doing the stadium shows but Pink’s also out here selling them all out. I have a friend who’s Pink’s background singer and my friend Danny said she’s really just pi**ed off no one’s talking about the fact that she’s also selling out stadiums.” The Mirror has approached representatives for comment on this story.
In 2017, Pink admitted she regretted saying she was “Team Taylor” after weighing in on one of pop’s biggest beefs. At the time, Swift and Katy Perry became embroiled in a bitter feud thanks to a disagreement over backing dancers. Both singers sniped on Twitter, with Swift even releasing the song Bad Blood as a swipe at Perry.
Although the two women have since reconciled and buried any “bad blood” between them, their fall-out dominated cultural conversations at the time, with Pink even asked to pick a side during an appearance on a London radio show in 2017 – something she later regretted.
“I should’ve just kept my mouth shut, because I don’t believe that. I don’t care,” the mum-of-two declared as she explained why she wished she hadn’t replied: “Team Taylor”. The Family Portrait singer went on to tell the Los Angeles Times: “I felt rushed and I didn’t know what to do. And I paid for it, because then the next day: ‘Pink is Team Taylor.’ I have two kids — I have a baby. And it’s so different now. I’m not inclined toward drama and feuds and soundbites.”
