Eric Clapton’s heartbreaking social media post has fans sending prayers
Eric Clapton took to social media Wednesday with an emotional video in the wake of the death of his mentor John Mayall.
The legendary performer was clearly emotional as he spoke, and his fans were quick to comfort him.
Mayall, a 90-year-old British blues artist, was chosen to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. And Clapton really launched his career in Mayall’s Blues breakers band.
In the video that Clapton uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, he said, “I want to say a few words about my friend John, who I learned passed away last night or sometime yesterday. I want to say, ‘Thank you, chiefly, for rescuing me from oblivion and God knows what—when I was a young man, around the age of 18, 19, when I decided I was going to quit music, he found me and took me into his home and asked me to join his band, and I stayed with him and learned from him.”
He went on, “And I learned everything that I really need to draw on today in terms of technique and desire to play the kind of music I love to play. I did all my research in his home, in his record collection, the Chicago blues that he was such an expert on, and I played with his band for a couple of years with Huey and John, and it was a fantastic experience. He taught me that it was OK to just play the music you wanted to play without dressing up or making anyone else like it. To listen to myself, to my inner motivations, and he was both a mentor and a surrogate father.
Clapton continued to shower him with sincere praise.
He added, “He taught me everything I really know and gave me the courage and enthusiasm to express myself without boundaries or fear.” “And I want to make up for it since all I gave him in return was how much fun it was to drink and womanize while he was already a family guy. that I carried out that action during his lifetime, and it is evident that I have since realized that is not the ideal course of action.
“I will miss him,” he continued. “I hope to see him on the other side, but I will miss him.” Thus, John, thank you. I promise to see you soon since I adore you, but not quite yet. Like they say in the movie Gladiator. May God reward you. I’m grateful.
“Very heartfelt Eric,” somebody said in reply. “We feel your pain as well!”
Another added, “My heart breaks for you, Eric.” “I’ll offer prayers for you and for John’s family.”
“Dude, you have my undying love,” wrote another. “My deepest sympathies. Keep on; you’re still needed here.
Another added, “Sincere prayers for your loss.” “I’m asking God to comfort me right now.””Very heartfelt Eric,” somebody said in reply. “We feel your pain as well!”
Another added, “My heart breaks for you, Eric.” “I’ll offer prayers for you and for John’s family.”

And there were a lot more comments along those lines.
According to Rolling Stone, before joining Cream, Clapton only recorded one album with Mayall’s group in 1966, “Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton.”
On his Instagram account on Tuesday, Mayall revealed his passing.
The message stated, “John Mayall passed away peacefully yesterday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in his California home.” “One of the greatest road warriors in history has found peace after health issues forced him to end his incredible touring career.”
