NWSL transfer: Following the 2024 Paris Olympics, Delphine Cascarino will move from Olympique Lyon to San Diego Wave FC.
Even though the NWSL transfer window is only a few days away, the deal-making process is still on. After the Olympics, France international Delphine Cascarino will join San Diego Wave FC, sources in the United States have confirmed to CBS Sports.
Cascarino is the most recent celebrity from abroad to sign with the NWSL this season. The league welcomed a number of important foreign players in 2024, and 56 players from the league will compete in the forthcoming Olympics.
After 15 years, the 27-year-old winger is leaving Olympique Lyon, where he has played since 2009. She has scored 45 goals in 223 games and won 23 titles with the team at the national level, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League. On their social media pages, Lyon just said goodbye to the seasoned player. In a farewell message to the players and supporters, the club also shared a video of Cascarino thanking everyone for her time and experiences with Lyon.
It was also revealed by sources that Cascarino has a two-and-a-half-year contract with a 2027 option. She will join San Diego’s roster as an international player and come following the Olympics, if her P-1 visa and international transfer certificate are received. Right now, Cascarino is representing France internationally at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
With the nation behind them, the tournament hosts had modest expectations for the podium. San Diego’s offense, which is in close second place in goals scored (12) this season, will benefit greatly from Cascarino’s arrival right away. The French attacker is an important addition for the last part of the season because of her ability to score goals and work well with others.
