Tom Cruise will feature in a new movie directed by The Revenant.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise has officially signed on to star in Inarritu’s new project, which will be his first English-language film in almost ten years. Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are currently in talks to produce the film.
This will be Inarritu’s first return to the English-language film industry since his triple-Award-winning 2015 film “The Revenant,” which starred Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio.
After co-writing the story with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman last year, Inarritu will both direct and produce the upcoming film. They collaborated on 2014’s “Birdman.”
Plot specifics, however, are currently being withheld.
“Birdman,” directed by Guillermo Inarritu in 2014, garnered four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Michael Keaton, the film’s actor, was also nominated for a Best Actor Oscar.
His sequel, “The Revenant,” was a big hit at the Oscars, giving Inarritu his second Best Director trophy in addition to Best Actor and another cinematography award for DiCaprio.
Cruise has had three Oscar nominations in the past but has never taken home the trophy. The actor, who has spent the majority of the previous ten years working on his big-budget action sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” and the Mission: Impossible franchise, is reportedly “eager to work with auteurs,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
He is currently working on an untitled project with filmmaker Doug Liman that is rumored to be set in space, in addition to his eighth “Mission: Impossible” movie, which is the sequel to 2023’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.”
The Spanish-language Netflix drama “Bardo” was Inarritu’s most recent release; it debuted on the platform in 2022.
