Sam Burgess breaks silence on Paul Vaughan’s future as Warrington Wolves confirm new signing
Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess has opened up on Paul Vaughan’s future, while the club has confirmed a new signing.
Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess admits that Paul Vaughan has “a decision to make” regarding his future, while the club has confirmed the signing of Tevita Pangai Junior on a one-year deal from 2026.
Former Australia prop Vaughan, 34, is out of contract at the Halliwell Jones Stadium at the end of the current season and has attracted strong interest from ambitious Championship club York, believed to be on a lucrative deal.
Speaking about Vaughan’s situation, Burgess said: “I think it’s probably a question for Paul. There’s a couple of things in line, and there’s a couple things in the way.
“He’s got a decision to make, but I don’t think anything is concrete just yet. I think in time, that’ll sort itself out.
“He’s just a great bloke to have around, and he’s playing like he’s rolling back the years. He’s enjoying himself, so we’re loving that at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Pangai Junior, 29, will make the switch to Warrington for the 2026 season from Catalans Dragons, the club has confirmed today.
The former Brisbane Broncos, Penrith Panthers, Canterbury Bulldogs and Dolphins forward joined the French outfit ahead of the 2025 Super League season.
He makes the move after reports that a code switch fell through with Super Rugby side ACT Brumbies in Australia.
“Fair play to Tevita, who was very open and honest about the whole situation. He’s coming wanting to play his best rugby,” Burgess said.
“We’re really excited. On his day, he can be one of the best props in the world. I’ve played against him, and I’ve done a little bit of coaching with him with the New South Wales team a couple years ago.
“He’s in the great years of his career, so hopefully we’ll see that when he gets to Warrington.”
