Doug Gray, the lead singer and founding member of The Marshall Tucker Band, will take a break from touring and life on the road due to health concerns.

Doug Gray, the lead singer and founding member of The Marshall Tucker Band, will take a break from touring and life on the road due to health concerns, according to a MTB social media post.

The band will continue performing live on its 2025 All Our Friends Tour, according to the post.

“Taking care of business as I always do,” Gray said in the post. “Thanks and see you soon.”

Though Gray will be temporarily off the stage, the tour has scheduled dates starting May 9 in West Wendover, Nevada, at the Peppermill Concert Hall.

“The band can’t wait to jam with JJ Grey & Mofro, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Jefferson Starship,” Gray said in the online post. “It’ll be a jam you’ll never forget!”

In the post, Gray said he will be involved in all aspects of the tour and looks forward to rejoining the band on the road as soon as possible.

“Everyone knows I’m not one to sit on my hands,” he said in the online post. “I’ll be making sure all of the stars are aligned. Let’s rock!”

What to know about The Marshall Tucker Band

According to the Spartanburg Music Trail site, The Marshall Tucker Band had six gold-selling albums — that’s 500,000 copies sold — and two million-selling albums.

The group began performing together in 1972. The original lineup included guitarists Toy Caldwell and George McCorkle, drummer Paul Riddle, bass player Tommy Caldwell, singer Doug Gray, and saxophonist and flutist Jerry Eubanks, according to the Music Trail site, written by Peter Cooper.

The band is known for its hits “Can’t You See,” “Heard It In A Love Song,” and “Fire On The Mountain.”
