Statues Unveiled at Rose Bowl and Ohio Stadium
On August 17, 2024, the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, unveiled a statue of Archie Griffin, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his first Heisman Trophy win. The statue is situated near Tunnel 28, adjacent to the new Legends Walk, which honors the 19 Heisman Trophy winners who have played in the Rose Bowl Game .
Subsequently, on August 30, 2024, an identical statue was unveiled at Ohio Stadium’s Rotunda in Columbus, Ohio. This dedication was part of Ohio State University’s celebration of Griffin’s enduring impact on the Buckeyes football program .
Celebrating a Historic Career
Archie Griffin remains the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in college football history, securing the award in 1974 and 1975. During his tenure at Ohio State, he led the Buckeyes to a 40-5-1 record, four Big Ten championships, and four consecutive Rose Bowl appearances. Griffin still holds the Ohio State record for career rushing yards, amassing 5,589 yards during his collegiate career .
