Netflix Set to Release Long-Awaited Documentary on Adam Lambert. Titled “High Drama: The Adam Lambert Story

Netflix has announced that it will premiere a long-anticipated documentary chronicling the life and career of Adam Lambert, the electrifying singer who first rose to fame on American Idol and later redefined rock vocals as the frontman for Queen. Titled “High Drama: The Adam Lambert Story,” the documentary promises an intimate look at Lambert’s journey, both personal and professional, as he broke barriers in the music industry and became an icon for self-expression and LGBTQ+ visibility.

Slated for release this summer, High Drama will delve into Lambert’s early years, growing up in San Diego, California, where his love for performance blossomed at an early age. Featuring never-before-seen home videos, early stage performances, and exclusive interviews with family and friends, the film paints a vivid portrait of a boy who was always destined for the spotlight.

Of course, the documentary highlights Lambert’s breakthrough moment on the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. His electrifying renditions of songs like “Mad World” and “Whole Lotta Love” made him a household name, earning him a fiercely loyal fan base. Though he ultimately finished as runner-up, Lambert’s career skyrocketed, leading to a successful solo career and collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry.

High Drama also spends significant time on Lambert’s most celebrated chapter: his partnership with Queen. When Lambert first performed with Queen’s original members, Brian May and Roger Taylor, during the finale of American Idol, it was clear that something special had been born. Over the years, “Queen + Adam Lambert” has played to sold-out arenas across the world, with Lambert winning over even the most devoted Freddie Mercury fans with his powerhouse vocals and electrifying stage presence.

In addition to recounting his professional milestones, the documentary doesn’t shy away from Lambert’s personal struggles. It explores his experiences navigating fame as an openly gay artist at a time when acceptance was far from guaranteed in the mainstream music world. Interviews with Lambert himself reveal the pressures he faced, the backlash he endured, and how he found strength in being unapologetically himself.

“Adam’s story is about resilience, authenticity, and the power of self-belief,” says the documentary’s director, acclaimed filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles, Generation Wealth). “His journey speaks to anyone who’s ever felt different or been told they couldn’t succeed by being themselves.”

The documentary also promises several emotional moments, including Lambert’s reflections on identity, mental health, and finding peace with his own place in the world. Lambert’s fans, affectionately called “Glamberts,” are sure to be delighted by behind-the-scenes footage from tours, recording sessions, and candid moments with Lambert offstage.
