The Illinois women’s basketball team has earned recognition for its work in the classroom last season, earning honorable mention status in the 2024-25 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, which was announced on Tuesday. The Fighting Illini posted a 3.597 combined GPA during the 2024-25 school year, which ranked first among Big Ten programs for the second-straight season.
“I am so incredibly proud of Illinois having the highest team GPA in the Big Ten the past two seasons,” shared head coach Shauna Green. “It’s a testament to our team’s hard work in the classroom on a daily basis. We talk every day about being elite in everything that we do; we want our young women to have the same competitive spirit and drive in the classroom as they do on the court. We will continue to strive for excellence on the court and in the classroom.”
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and III; NAIA; and two-year college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2024-25 season is the 30th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
Illinois is one of 115 Division-I women’s teams to earn a 3.0 combined GPA or better and ranks tied for 30th on the list for top marks. The Fighting Illini’s 3.597 GPA is the top mark in the Big Ten for the second consecutive campaign after ranking second in the league following Shauna Green‘s first season at the helm in 2022-23.
In total, 10 of the league’s 18 squads earned honorable mention status from the WBCA: Illinois (T-30), Nebraska (39), Michigan State (47), Indiana (48), Minnesota (51), Iowa (56), Northwestern (70), USC (91), Ohio State (100), and Oregon (107).
