What does $5M National Women’s Soccer League settlement mean for Racing Louisville FC?AS NWSL agrees to pay $5 million to…

Four years ago, accusations of abuse involving Racing Louisville FC and the National Women’s Soccer League came to light, and now — after a yearslong investigation — restitution has been agreed upon for the victims, including former Racing player Erin Simon.

Racing fired former coach Christy Holly in August 2021 before an independent investigation was commissioned in October 2021 by the United States Soccer Federation. The investigation was conducted by Sally Q. Yates and King & Spalding LLP, which detailed the sexual misconduct and abusive behavior from coaches around the NWSL. The 173-page Yates Report was released in October 2022; Holly was accused of sexually assaulting Simon.

“This agreement is a massive achievement, and I’m especially grateful that it includes increased mental health support for the players,” Simon detailed in the Yates Report. “While it doesn’t change what happened or the pain caused to all the women named, unnamed and still suffering from what happened to them, it is a massive step. This is a continued fight that we cannot abandon, because of vigilance to protect the players should never stop.”On Wednesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb announced a landmark $5 million settlement to compensate victims of abuse in the NWSL.
