BREAKING NEWS; NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has agreed to become the general manager of Sacramento State Men’s Basketball

Yes, it’s official: NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has agreed to become the general manager of Sacramento State men’s basketball. This move is part of a broader effort to revitalize the Hornets’ program, which has historically struggled in Division I play.

O’Neal’s role is voluntary and unpaid, focusing on recruitment, marketing, and player development. His appointment coincides with his son, Shaqir O’Neal, transferring to Sacramento State from Florida A&M to play under new head coach Mike Bibby, a former NBA star and Sacramento Kings standout.

The program is also adding former high school phenom Mikey Williams, who transferred from UCF. These high-profile additions, along with plans to move into a new basketball facility, signal Sacramento State’s ambitions to elevate its athletic profile and competitiveness.

He took over after David Patrick left to become an assistant coach at LSU after two seasons in which Sacramento State went 24-42.
