UPDATE | A Portland man has been found safe Sunday after he didn’t return from an outing in the Richmond neighborhood the previous afternoon.
Richard Cheung was found safe, Portland Police said shortly before noon Sunday, adding that they would like to thank the community for helping in the search.
ORIGINAL STORY | A 90-year-old man was reported as missing in Southeast Portland’s Richmond neighborhood after he didn’t return home on Saturday night, police officials said.

Richard Cheung left his home on Southeast Ladd Avenue at about 3 p.m. to search for cans, using a dark blue baby stroller to carry them. According to investigators, he usually searches for cans in the alleyways of Ladd’s Addition.
The Portland Street Response made contact with him at about 7:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Southeast Kelly Street, but he declined their services. That was the last time he was seen, police said.
Cheung is described as about 5-foot 6-inches tall, and weighing 100 pounds. He speaks Cantonese and his English is limited. He was last seen wearing several layers of jackets.
He had a stroke several years ago that left him partially paralyzed on the right side and takes some medications, family says, however he is otherwise healthy.
If you see Cheung, police ask you to call 911. If you have any helpful information that is not time-sensitive, they ask that you contact the bureau’s missing persons unit by emailing missing@police.portlandoregon.gov.
