Netflix is set to release a documentary in 2026 spotlighting the Brazilian death metal band Crypta, offering fans an intimate look at the band’s journey and a deeper understanding of what drives their music.
Formed in São Paulo in 2019, Crypta comprises bassist-vocalist Fernanda Lira, drummer Luana Dametto, and guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jéssica di Falchi. The band quickly gained recognition with their debut album, Echoes of the Soul (2021), which charted internationally, including landing at #55 on the Official German Album Charts and debuting at #15 on both the US Hard Music Albums and Top New Artist Albums charts. Their sophomore release, Shades of Sorrow (2023), further solidified their standing in the metal scene.
Known for their intense live performances, Crypta has toured extensively, including a sold-out show at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles during their first U.S. headline tour. Their performances are noted for their unrelenting energy and the commanding presence of frontwoman Fernanda Lira.
The upcoming Netflix documentary aims to delve into the band’s formation, their rise in the death metal genre, and the dynamics of being an all-female band in a traditionally male-dominated scene. It will feature behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and insights into their creative process. This release is anticipated to not only appeal to metal enthusiasts but also to a broader audience interested in music documentaries.
As Crypta continues to make waves in the metal world, the documentary will serve as a testament to their influence and the evolving landscape of the genre.
