Netflix Set to Release Long-Awaited Documentary on Colorado Avalanche
Netflix has officially announced the release of a brand-new documentary centered on the Colorado Avalanche, one of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) most iconic and successful franchises. The eagerly awaited series, titled “Avs Unleashed: Inside the Colorado Avalanche,” will debut globally this spring, offering fans an unprecedented look into the inner workings of the team, both on and off the ice.
Following the success of Netflix’s recent ventures into sports documentaries, including hit series covering Formula 1, tennis, and football, the streaming giant now turns its attention to the high-octane world of professional ice hockey. The series will chronicle the Avalanche’s journey over recent seasons, culminating in the team’s dramatic run to capture the 2022 Stanley Cup—their first in over two decades.
“Avs Unleashed” will dive deep into the culture, personalities, and pivotal moments that have defined the modern era of Colorado’s beloved team. From the intensity of playoff battles at Ball Arena to the camaraderie in the locker room and the behind-the-scenes decisions made by coaches and management, the series promises to bring fans closer than ever before to the heart of the Avalanche organization.
“This is a story of grit, perseverance, and championship mentality,” said Netflix’s Head of Sports Content, Laura Jensen. “The Avalanche’s recent journey to the Stanley Cup embodies everything that makes professional sports compelling. We are excited to share the untold stories and intimate moments that shaped this remarkable team.”
The documentary will feature exclusive interviews with key players including team captain Gabriel Landeskog, superstar Nathan MacKinnon, Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Cale Makar, and head coach Jared Bednar. In addition, viewers will hear from Avalanche legends, front office executives, and passionate fans who have stood by the team since its relocation from Quebec in 1995.
The Colorado Avalanche’s rise to prominence has been marked by unforgettable moments—three Stanley Cup victories (1996, 2001, and 2022), Hall of Fame-caliber rosters, and a deep connection with the Denver community. The series will explore how the franchise has become a cornerstone of Colorado sports culture and how its resurgence has ignited a new generation of hockey enthusiasts across the state.
Beyond the goals, saves, and celebrations, “Avs Unleashed” will also shed light on the physical and emotional toll of competing at the NHL’s highest level. From injuries and setbacks to the mental strain of playoff pressure, the series aims to paint an authentic portrait of what it takes to become champions.
Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland expressed excitement about the project: “Our organization is proud to give fans an inside look at the dedication and determination that drive this team. We hope the series captures the true Avalanche spirit and the passion that makes our fan base one of the best in the NHL.”
The documentary’s release comes at a time when the Avalanche continue to be strong contenders in the league, building on the momentum of their 2022 Stanley Cup triumph with a roster stacked with talent and ambition.
Avs Unleashed: Inside the Colorado Avalanche will premiere on Netflix on May 15th, with all episodes available for streaming on day one. Whether you’re a die-hard hockey fan or a newcomer to the sport, the series promises to deliver a thrilling and inspiring narrative that transcends the rink.
