Documentary on Minnesota Twins

Netflix has officially announced any upcoming documentaries specifically focused on the Minnesota Twins. However, the streaming platform continues to expand its collection of sports documentaries, particularly in the realm of baseball. While there may not be a project dedicated solely to the Twins at this time, several recent Netflix releases may capture the interest of Twins fans due to their relevance to baseball history and Minnesota’s connections to the sport.

One such documentary is The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox, a three-episode series that premiered in late 2024. This documentary delves into one of the most historic comebacks in Major League Baseball history, when the Boston Red Sox overcame a 3-0 deficit against the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. A key figure in that legendary postseason run was David Ortiz, who began his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins before becoming a Red Sox icon. Twins fans may appreciate the insight into Ortiz’s early career and how he evolved into a clutch performer on baseball’s biggest stage.

Another compelling baseball documentary available on Netflix is The Saint of Second Chances. Released on September 19, 2023, this film tells the story of Mike Veeck, son of the legendary baseball promoter and owner Bill Veeck. The documentary highlights Mike’s impact on baseball promotions, including his tenure with the St. Paul Saints, an independent baseball team in Minnesota. Through humorous and emotional storytelling, the film showcases the influence of the Veeck family on baseball and the innovative ways in which Mike revitalized the fan experience. Given the Minnesota connection, this documentary offers a unique look at how the state has contributed to baseball’s evolution beyond Major League Baseball.

Beyond Netflix, there are other ways for Minnesota Twins fans to engage with baseball content. The Twins’ official media partners frequently release in-depth retrospectives on the team’s history, memorable moments, and legendary players. Fans looking for a deeper dive into the franchise’s past may also find classic games, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage on the MLB Network, YouTube, and the team’s official website.

Additionally, with the baseball season fast approaching, fans can look forward to watching the Twins in action during spring training. The team is set to participate in several preseason matchups against a variety of opponents, providing an opportunity for fans to assess new roster additions and young prospects before Opening Day. These games offer insight into how the team is shaping up for the regular season, which can be particularly exciting for those who closely follow player development and strategic decisions.

Greatest Twins Teams of All Time: 2019 - Twins - Twins Daily

Starting in 2025, the Minnesota Twins television options are completely changing. They are launching Twins.TV, a joint effort with Major League baseball to offer both streaming and television. But when everything changes, things can also get confusing, so here are the answers we have so far about how to watch the Minnesota Twins on TV or a mobile device.

Twins 9, Rays 4: In the big inning - Twinkie Town

First, don’t panic. You’re not alone. After years of having the same solution for how to watch the Twins on TV or streaming, , chaos has reigned lately, and everything you know is shifting in 2025. After years of partnership with Bally (now Fan Duel) Sports North, the Twins are taking control of their TV and streaming offerings. Unfortunately, the details around this are coming through in drips, but we’ll keep this updated as we learn more. Here’s what we know now,  while the Twins have now posted a full, updated FAQ – including a DTC distribution map and zip code finder – at twins.com/watch.

Twins.TV is now available for purchase! Yearly and monthly Twins.TV subscriptions can be purchased now at Twins.TV, while fans who sign up for a yearly package before April 1 also receive 50% off select tickets for all Twins home games in April and May – including the 2025 Home Opener.

How To Watch Twins Baseball If You’re In-Market (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and parts of Wisconsin, and Iowa)

This is really two questions: one about cable or satellite TV and one about digital streaming or “direct to consumer.”

The answer for TV is: we don’t know yet. We know that it will be available on all the major cable and satellite systems. But we don’t know how to access it or how much it will cost. We know it will not be on Fan Duel Sports Network (previously Bally’s Sport Network – BSN, which was previously Fox Sports North – FSN). We expect news on the details to be revealed in February and March of 2025, and we’ll update this as we get details. It likely involves upgrading to a “sports tier” within your existing cable or satellite company. As was the case for the Diamondbacks, Padres, and Rockies the last two seasons (and again in 2025), and the Twins and Guardians in 2025, Major League Baseball is currently negotiating carrier contracts. The Twins expect that the linear version of Twins.TV will live on the same packages and tiers that FanDuel Sports Network currently reside on.

The news is considerably clearer for streaming. For years, the Twins didn’t offer a direct-to-consumer product because their contract with BSN prohibited them from doing so. Now, the exact opposite is true. Fans will be able to sign up for a package to watch all the Twins games “in-market”, meaning fans in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, parts of Wisconsin and Iowa can stream games directly. All games will be included except exclusive National Broadcasts, like games on ESPN, Fox, or Apple TV.

The base cost will be $99.99 per year or $19.99 per month. Twins season ticket holders will be able to purchase the package at half that cost. In addition, an in-market package will be offered that also includes the rest of the league.

The in-market package is available now at Twins.TV.

Are there any special rules for watching in Iowa?

For YEARS it has seemed that Major League Baseball has something against Iowa. Despite not really belonging to any market, Iowa has been blacked out for several teams. So if you bought MLB.TV, even though the Twins were at least a hundred miles away, you couldn’t watch them. So we double-checked with the Twins on how Iowa will work.

If Iowans buy the in-market streaming option for the Twins, they will get to watch all the (non-nationally broadcast) games, just like they could if they were in Minnesota. This is true even if the Twins are playing against one of the other teams that would usually be blacked out in Iowa, like the Cubs or Cardinals.

But note, this does NOT mean that just buying MLB.TV will allow Iowans to watch Twins games, just like Minnesotans that buy the standard MLB.TV package can’t watch Twins games. Iowans will need to buy the in-market Twins option from Twins.TV. If they want to watch all other MLB games as well (like they can with MLB.TV) they can buy the upgrade option that adds on all other MLB games (that are out of market).

Where You Can Find Nationally Televised Games and When They Broadcast

  • Friday Night Baseball (Apple TV+, Streaming Only)
  • Saturday Night Baseball (Fox, Broadcast or Cable Streaming Only)
  • Sunday Night Baseball (ESPN, Cable & Streaming Options)
  • Sunday Leadoff (Peacock, Streaming Only)

How To Watch Twins Baseball If You’re Out-of-Market (Anywhere In the World Outside of In-Market Options Listed Above)

Things for out-of-market fans are more straightforward. The simplest option is likely an MLB.tv all-teams subscription for streaming or the Extra Innings package for TV. That would allow you to watch all the non-nationally televised games with one exception: when the Twins are playing in your market. For instance, if you live in Chicago, and the Twins are playing the Cubs or White Sox, you would be considered “in-market” for the Cubs and White Sox, and thus could not watch the Twins games versus those teams.

Twins.TV: Production Enhancements and Special Features
Fans who purchase any Twins.TV streaming subscription will benefit from many enhancements to the game production and in-platform user experience, with special features including:

Exclusive New Cameras and Player Access: Twins.TV broadcasts of select home games at Target Field will include special features normally reserved for nationally-televised games including Ump Cam, Wire Cam, a new RF camera with a shallow depth-of-field look and increased access such as in-game interviews with players.

Exclusive Live Look-Ins: Twins.TV broadcasts will also feature live look-ins to the MLB Replay Operations Center and, thanks to the MLB-led production of MiLB.TV, exclusive live look-ins on Twins minor league affiliate game broadcasts during major league rain delays, injury rehabilitation assignments, big moments for top prospects and more.

Special User Experience Features: Twins.TV subscribers will have access to high-definition game feeds, live game DVR and in-game playback controls like clickable linescores and box scores. Select streaming platforms will also feature a special Catchup Mode with a selection of in-game highlights designed to ensure fans can get up to speed on games in already in progress.

Award-winning Broadcast and Production Talent: Three-time Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year Cory Provus is the play-by-play voice for Twins.TV; he is joined on air by Twins Hall of Famer Justin Morneau (primary analyst), Twins alumni LaTroy Hawkins (analyst), Glen Perkins (analyst), Trevor Plouffe (analyst), Denard Span (analyst) and Tim Laudner (pre and postgame host), and experienced voices Audra Martin (reporter) and Katie Storm (pre and postgame host). Twins.TV broadcasts will be led multi-time Emmy Award winning producer Trevor Fleck.
