Netflix has announced an upcoming docuseries titled “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” set to premiere in 2025. This series will delve into the transformative journey of Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, highlighting his pivotal role in reshaping the franchise and leading it to three NFL championships in the 1990s.
The 10-episode series promises an in-depth exploration of the Cowboys’ ascent to becoming a football dynasty. It will feature never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews with key figures from the era, including:
- Jerry Jones
- Troy Aikman
- Michael Irvin
- Emmitt Smith
- Deion Sanders
- Head coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer
- Notable fans such as former President George W. Bush and Nike co-founder Phil Knight
The series aims to provide a comprehensive look at how Jones’ bold business decisions and leadership not only revitalized the Cowboys but also left a lasting impact on the global sports industry.
In a teaser trailer released in December 2024, Jones reflects on the franchise’s journey, stating, “This is our story.” He further comments on the team’s high-profile nature, describing the Cowboys organization as “a soap opera 365 days a year.”
This docuseries is part of Netflix’s broader initiative to expand its sports-related content. It follows the success of “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” which premiered in June 2024 and has been renewed for a second season. The cheerleaders’ series offers an inside look into the rigorous selection process and the personal lives of the team members.
“America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys” is produced in collaboration with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, and Stardust Frames Productions. The series is directed by Chapman Way and Maclain Way, known for their work on the “Untold” series, and executive produced by industry veterans including David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach, Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, and John Skipper.
While an exact release date has not been specified, the series is slated to debut exclusively on Netflix in 2025. Fans and viewers can anticipate a compelling narrative that not only chronicles the Cowboys’ on-field successes but also delves into the strategic decisions and personalities that propelled the franchise to its esteemed status as “America’s Team.”
