Nottingham Forest set to sell 5 key Player to avoid points deduction blow –
Nottingham Forest’s star players are being closely monitored by other clubs following their outstanding performances in the Premier League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Forest could be looking to sell players again before the accounting deadline as they are likely to be close to the profit and sustainability (PSR) limit.
Forest were handed a four-point deduction last season after being charged with a spending breach by the Premier League, with top-flight clubs only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were believed to be close to the limit for 2023-24, but the last-ditch sales of Odysseas Vlachodimos, Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate before the 30 June accounting deadline ensured they didn’t break the rules again.
Forest have enjoyed a strong season so far as they currently sit third in the Premier League table after 23 games.
They saw a £22million bid turned down for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa last week and have been heavily linked with a move for Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.
Nottingham Forest are close to PSR limit
Borson suggested Forest could potentially look to make some early summer sales if they add to their squad before the transfer window closes on 3 February.
“Maybe they back themselves to be able to do a bit of trading before 30 June again. We know they do have quite a substantial value in that squad.
“People are looking at quite a few of their players and will look at them closely after this season, so they are probably thinking they can trade. The other aspect is they may feel they have got an asset they can sell intra-group to fill the gap.
“At the moment, what we don’t know is how did all these teams comply with PSR for 2023-24, and how many of them sold non-football assets like Chelsea. Maybe a few of them did. We will see when we get their accounts because they have to disclose it.
“If they have done that, have those sales been assessed for fair market value or are they still outstanding pending further review by the Premier League?
