Those driving on Interstate 64 on the Southside may have run into some traffic backups Tuesday morning.
All the eastbound lanes of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) between Hampton and Norfolk were closed due to a vehicle crash, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Traffic backups were around two miles.
In Norfolk, a multi-vehicle crash near Tidewater Lane left the west left shoulder, left lane, left center lane and right center lane closed in the westbound lanes.
Serious crash closes A148 Cromer Road in High Kelling
A serious crash left a major road in north Norfolk closed both ways.
Police were at the scene in the A148 Cromer Road, in High Kelling, following the collision.
The road was shut both ways between Bridge Road and Gipsies’ Lane after the incident which is believed to have taken place at around 4.30pm
An air ambulance was also spotted landing just off Cromer Road at around 4.50pm.
A fire crew from Holt were also called to the site to help assist the ambulance service and make the area safe.
Traffic began to build, leading to delays of around 40 minutes. Drivers were strongly advised to avoid the area.
Local bus services including the Sanders Coaches 44 route also faced disruption “until further notice”.
A spokesman for Sanders said: “We have been advised the A148 is to remain closed for several hours.
“All remaining 44s leaving Sheringham towards Holt are currently suspended until further notice.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to divert our double-deck buses due to low bridge restrictions.”
