This is the reason why Stephen King wants the Oscars canceled
The decorated author has spoken out about the ceremony going ahead in the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires.
Acclaimed author Stephen King made the news back in November with the 77-year-old one of the high profile public figures to confirm that he would no longer post on X.
King has been a long standing critic of Elon Musk and has spend much time criticising the South African tycoon who took control of the social media site (formerly known as Twitter) back in April 2022.
On November 14, the Maine-based writer posted for the last time to his 6.9 million followers on X stating: “I’m leaving Twitter,” the horror writer began. “I’ve tried to stay, but the atmosphere has become too toxic. Follow me on Threads (and Blue Sky), if you like.”
King is now a regular poster on Blue Sky and maintains his forthright and frank views on a myriad of current affairs.
King on the Oscars
The celebrated author is back in the headlines this week again as he has stated that he will not be voting for this years Academy Awards nominees and also believes that the 2025 Oscars ceremony should not be staged in the city. Los Angeles firefighters are finally starting to regain control over the wildfires that have blighted the region in the past weeks.
On Thursday, the renowned horror writer posted about his position on the social media site Bluesky stating: “Not voting in the Oscars this year. IMHO they should cancel them. No glitz with Los Angeles on fire”.
He then delivered a follow-up post on Friday, adding: “I hear what you guys are saying about the Oscars, and how they’re a celebration of life, and the show must go on, blah-blah-blah, so-on-and-so-forth. It all makes a degree of sense, but to me it still feels like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Or in this case, wearing fancy clothes while LA burns”.
