Parramatta Eels confirm signing of terminated halfback

Ronald Volkman has been handed an NRL lifeline after signing with the Eels.

The halfback spent the 2024 season without a club after being terminated by the Dragons.

A year ago, he was granted a release from his contract with the Warriors, before going on to ink a deal with the Dragons.

However, he failed a club medical exam due to a pre-existing shoulder injury, which required surgery.

The 22 year old’s Red V contract was terminated, with the Warriors covering the surgery and rehabilitation costs.

The Dragons were later fined $40,000 after being issued with a breach notice.

Now injury-free and with this saga behind him, Volkman will look to rebuild his NRL career at Parramatta.

The club confirmed the deal with a social media post on Thursday.

“I don’t think there are any words to explain how excited I am honest,” Volkman told News Corp.

“This year has been tough for me. This is a good way for me to get my foot in the door. I’m just excited.

“It’s been tough. I don’t wish it upon anyone to be honest. It’s been a real journey for me. A dark path you could say. I’m just happy to come out of it.”

Volkman joins fellow new signing Dean Hawkins as depth players in the Eels’ halves.

Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses will assume playmaking duties from the start of the season.
