Los Angeles Lakers have had a surprising change of heart about trading D’Angelo Russell…
The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly reconsidered their plans to trade D’Angelo Russell after his improved performance in a redefined role. Initially expected to be a trade candidate due to inconsistency and overlapping skills with other guards like Austin Reaves, Russell has adapted to coming off the bench under head coach JJ Redick. This shift has positively impacted the Lakers, as the team has performed significantly better with him on the court during these rotations.

Russell’s recent stats reflect his improvement, with notable increases in shooting efficiency and contributions to the second unit. The Lakers, who initially saw him as a potential trade chip for strengthening their roster, now appear reluctant to part with him unless a significant upgrade, like Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray, becomes attainable. His $18.6 million expiring contract also complicates trade discussions, as rival teams show limited interest without significant incentives.

The change of heart aligns with broader concerns about preserving team chemistry and maximizing their competitive edge in a challenging Western Conference. Russell’s ability to embrace his new role could also boost his free-agent value, further motivating him to maintain this level of play
