Dumped Cat returns home

Delisted Geelong rookie Oscar Murdoch will return to where his football journey began in 2025 after signing with GFNL club Newtown & Chilwell.

The 20-year-old spent two years on the Cats’ list for 29 VFL games after being selected with pick 18 in the 2023 Rookie Draft from the Geelong Falcons.

At 190cm, Murdoch will be handy addition to Newtown & Chilwell’s defensive addition.

Murdoch’s signature came only 48 hours after the Eagles unveiled Yarrawonga premiership player Logan Morey as joining Geelong great Steve Johson at Elderslie Reserve.

A product of Barooga in the Murray League, Morey is no stranger to the GFNL, having spent the past two seasons training with reigning premier Leopold while playing at Yarrawonga.Oscar Murdoch | AFL

Meanwhile, former Colac star Liam McCarthy has signed with Corowa-Rutherglen in the Ovens and Murray League.

McCarthy, who made three VFL appearances with Geelong in 2022, has spent the past two seasons with South Cairns.

At South Cairns, he played under former Sydney star and one-time Cats assistant coach Daryn Creswell, who has taken the senior coaching position at Corowa-Rutherglen.
