Texas QB Quinn Ewers Faces Grim NFL Draft Prediction Amid Struggles
Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has struggled to regain his previous form after returning from an injury, and the slump could now have an impact on his NFL Draft stock.
Ewers missed several weeks with an abdominal injury, allowing former top prospect Arch Manning to take the helm of the Longhorns’ offense. Ewers returned against Oklahoma in Week 7 but has struggled, ultimately being benched in favor of Manning for a stretch during the team’s loss to Georgia on Saturday.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian spoke about the struggles on Monday, saying Ewers has some areas he can improve.
“I think Quinn definitely can play better,” Sarkisian told reporters. “We’ve got to continue to work his pocket presence and making sure that he’s capitalizing on the premier looks when we get them, why we’re calling plays and we get those shots to take them. But I also think we need to play better around him.”
The slump could also leave Ewers tumbling down the draft board. In a recent 2025 NFL mock draft, Athlon Sports insider Luke Easterling predicted that the Texas quarterback would fall out of the first round
Easterling predicted that Miami’s Cam Ward would be the first quarterback off the board, going No. 4 overall to the Tennessee Titans. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Penn State’s Drew Allar were the only other quarterbacks predicted to be picked in the first round, with Sanders going to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 8 and Allar to the Giants at No. 9.
Other analysts are higher on Ewers. Draft Network’s Keith Sanchez predicted he would be selected by the Titans with the No. 7 overall pick.
