A fatal crash temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 closed in Brevard County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around noon in the northbound lanes of the interstate in the Mims area at mile marker 223 near State Road 46.According to a preliminary crash report, a Ford F-150 pulling a travel trailer was heading north on I-95, south of State Road 46 in the outside lane.
Troopers said the driver lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected which caused the truck to rotate and start to overturn. The vehicle came to a final rest on its roof in the inside lane with the trailer overturned onto its right side.
According to the report, the driver – identified as a 73-year-old Vero Beach woman – was pronounced dead at the scene. An 8-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. In addition, a 74-year-old passenger was not injured.
All lanes of I-95 were reopened as of 4:30 p.m., troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
I-95 southbound near Palm Bay reopens after fatal crash
One person died in a crash on Interstate 95 southbound near Palm Bay in Brevard County Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP is reporting the crash occurred around 10:46 Sunday morning near mile marker 165, which is south of Palm Bay near the Indian River County line.
A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene alongside several ambulances and other first responders.
Brevard County Fire Rescue said it was a rollover crash with four ejections.
Two people were transported by ground, one person was airlifted to the hospital, and there was one fatality, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
FHP said all three victims transported was in serious or critical condition.
Florida Highway Patrol said all southbound lanes had reopened as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
