Update: A55 eastbound near Chester back open after long closure due to serious collision

Update: Police said at just after 3.30am, “The A55 Eastbound between J38 (Posthouse Roundabout) and J39 (Vicars Cross) has been fully reopened.”

Earlier report: The A55 in Chester is currently closed eastbound following a serious collision near to junction 39.

The collision, between a HGV and a pedestrian, was reported to police shortly after 5pm today, Tuesday 4 June.

As a result of the incident the eastbound carriageway is currently closed between junction 38 (Wrexham Road) and junction 40 (Tarvin Road).

Police have said the closure is “expected to remain in place for several hours and while local diversion are in place, motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”

“Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any dashcam footage of the incident is urged to contact Cheshire police.”

A traffic report for the area states: “Road closed and long delays due to police incident on A55 Eastbound between J38 A483 Wrexham Road (Posthouse Roundabout) and J39 A41 (Sainsbury’s / Boughton Heath Roundabout). Congestion to delays through Chester as traffic diverts.”

Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol:

Exit A55 at J38 Wrexham Road Interchange.
At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A483 southbound towards Wrexham.
Remain on the A483 to the Gresford Interchange.
Exit and at the roundabout with the A5156 and take the first exit.
Follow the A5156 southbound to the roundabout with the A534.
Take the first exit on to the A534 eastbound and continue to the roundabout with the A41.
Take the first exit on to the A41 northbound.
Continue to the interchange with the A5115 and turn right to remain on the A41.
Continue to the junction with the A51.
Turn right on to the A51 eastbound and continue to J40 of the A55.
Take the first exit from the roundabout to re-join A55.
