Gary O’Neil’ gets serious warning ahead Newcastle United clash. The full details

After the international break, Newcastle United visits Molineux to kick off Wolves’ Premier League season.

Gary O’Neil’s team will face a challenging opponent, but one that will provide the Midlands club the opportunity to win their first Premier League game of the year.
Prior to the international break, Wolves recorded a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest to earn their first point of the season.

The domestic play break is now over, and attention will shift back to O’Neil’s team’s enormous obstacles going forward, starting with Newcastle’s visit to Molineux.Newcastle presents a problem for Wolves to overcome.
Hwang Hee-chan and Mario Lemina scored the game’s goals as Wolves and Newcastle tied 2-2 at Molineux the previous season.

When playing the Magpies on match day four of 2024–2025, there will be hopes for a comparable, if not better, outcome.

On the E&S Wolves Podcast, writer Liam Keen said that O’Neil has been alerted to one of the “biggest” issues he needs to resolve inside his team in order to win.

The defense is the main problem, according to Keen.

Finding the ideal player balance is crucial, regardless of whether Dawson plays or Toti shifts to left back and where Ait-Nouri fits into the scheme of things.

The Wolves expert made the boss’s life a little easier by emphasizing how crucial it is to have Rayan Ait-Nouri in the lineup and leaving it up to O’Neil to arrange his back line.

“You have to attempt to piece together all of these jigsaw pieces, and Ait-Nouri needs to be included in the finished image—the question is where to put him. It’s a difficult dilemma.

Rayan Ait-Nouri and Gary O’Neil are at odds.
After being nearly banished by Julen Lopetegui, Ait-Nouri, an Algerian, found his calling at Molineux, and very few Wolves players had the same impact as the Algerian last season.

The 23-year-old, who thrived playing on the left side of a defensive back five as a wing-back, was undoubtedly at his best under O’Neill.
Since switching to a back four, O’Neil has noticed that Ait-Nouri’s role has proven harmful to his output because a back five is a far better fit for the left-back position.

Ait-Nouri has played left-back and wing so far this season; it is unclear if the manager will switch up his defensive configuration and how the player will be perceived.

Given that Ait-Nouri, an Algerian international, holds the key to unlocking much of Wolves’ future threat, it will be interesting to watch how O’Neil arranges his team with his form in mind.
