Sheffield United have completed the signing of former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Sian Rogers on a free transfer.

The Blades announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Rogers joins Sheffield United after leaving former club Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

The 26-year-old keeper is experienced at Barclays Women’s Championship level. Rogers has spent the majority of her career to date playing in the second tier in spells with Aston Villa and Charlton Athletic. She also represented Aston Villa in the top flight. Rogers was a Barclays Women’s Championship runner-up with latest club Charlton Athletic last term.

After completing her move to Sheffield United, Rogers said “I’m really excited. It’s a team I know a lot about and something I really wanted to be a part of and I’m just really excited to get going now.

“Every game against the team has been a tough game and you always knew it would be, it’s a team that works hard for each other. It’s a fresh start for me, I’m proud of what I’ve done, but I know I can do more and I want to bring those experiences in here.”

Rogers becomes Sheffield United’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Gustavo Hamer out: 2 deals Sheffield United can be expected to make before the EFL kick-off on August 9th

Sheffield United will hope that most of their summer transfer business can be wrapped up before the Championship season gets underway in order to try and obtain the best start to their season possible.

The Blades are preparing for life back in the second tier after a disappointing campaign in the Premier League last season.

The South Yorkshire side, under manager Chris Wilder, are looking to return to the top flight at the first time of asking, but it is likely that more incomings and outgoings are going to happen for them to have a squad capable of achieving promotion.

Sheffield United have already brought in three new players in this window, with Sam McCallum, Keiffer Moore, and Callum O’Hare joining the club.

Wilder will likely want more, while also trying to keep the nucleus of his squad from the previous campaign.

With that said, here we have looked at two deals Sheffield United can be expected to make before the EFL kick-offs on August 9th…

IN: Matt Grimes

Sheffield United are working in a tight financial situation at the moment as they are still waiting for their new takeover to go through, although they have paid a fee to bring Kieffer Moore to the club.

Therefore, the takeover situation has meant the Blades have probably been unable to do as much business as they would have liked.

United saw several first-team players leave at the end of last month after their contracts expired, and that means Wilder is probably going to want to add more players to his squad over the coming weeks, and one player who is said to be on their radar is Swansea City’s Matt Grimes.

It was reported over the weekend that Sheffield United’s prospective new owners, a Silicon Valley-based US consortium, have identified Grimes – as well as Norwich City’s Kenny McLean – as potential midfield additions.

The report states that the Swans are unwilling to part with Grimes easily and, therefore, will demand a strong fee for the midfielder.

But the playmaker could well be someone that Sheffield United pursue in the coming weeks before the new season kicks off.

Talking Tactics | Matt Grimes | Swansea

The 29-year-old has enormous experience of the Championship, having played over 290 games at the level. Grimes has been a consistent regular for Swansea since joining the club from Leeds United, chipping in with goals and assists most seasons.

He would be a perfect fit at Bramall Lane, as the midfielder operates in a deeper-lying role – something which they are perhaps lacking due to the departure of Ollie Norwood.

Grimes still has three years left to run on his contract in South Wales, so Sheffield United will need to stump up the money if they are to sign him, but there’s every chance he could be tempted with the switch to Yorkshire.

Gustavo Hamer

Gustavo Hamer still remains a Sheffield United player, but it is a question of how long.

The midfielder’s future at Bramall Lane has been up in the air ever since the club suffered relegation to the Championship.

It was reported back in May that Sheffield United were willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian, with the Blades having to accept £15 million due to a clause in his contract.

Hamer only joined the club in the summer transfer window of last year, but it was reported earlier in the summer that the Blades were looking to raise funds for incomings.

Since this report, it has been claimed that Premier League side Wolves are interested in signing Hamer along with his teammate Anel Ahmedhodzic. However, according to Express & Star reporter Liam Keen, the Premier League side are not pursuing a move for the pair.

While Wolves may not be interested in the midfielder, it still appears likely that Hamer will leave Sheffield United at some point in this transfer window, as he is fully capable of playing in a top division.

Ideally, the Blades would rather get his exit sorted before the season begins than for him to still be at the club, play in their opening games of the campaign, and then leave towards the end of the transfer window.

Hamer’s future appears to be away from Sheffield United, as the Yorkshire side look to recoup the money they paid for him 12 months ago.
