The First-Ever Meeting Between Iron Maiden’s Paul Di’Anno and Bruce Dickinson
Iron Maiden, who helped spearhead the new generation of British heavy metal, not only became well-known during the movement but also carved out a successful career for themselves in the music business. The group put out multiple studio albums with hits including “2 Minutes to Midnight,” “The Number of the Beast,” and “Aces High” over a period of over 50 years. Over the years, Iron Maiden’s lineup underwent numerous changes, much like any other band. Furthermore, given the band’s past with vocalists like Bruce Dickinson and Paul Di’Anno, it seems unlikely that these two performers had ever met.
Although both singers were members of Iron Maiden, it doesn’t appear that they ever crossed paths. But while Dickisno and Di’Anno were in Zagreb, Croatia, everything was different. Dickinson was touring the region at the time to promote The Mandrake Project, his new record. Di’Anno was there to support Warhorse, his new band, and his debut album.
Luckily, a camera was ready to capture the two rock legends as they appeared to connect at how quickly time passed. Di’Anno mentioned that he was looking forward to his impending knee surgery as they spoke about aging, health, and maintaining an optimistic outlook. “I’m not going to be riding the Harley again anytime soon.”
As the video received thousands of views and comments like “This is a great sight,” fans were enamored with the concept of the couple meeting for the first time. Since they are all now elderly and have established and secured legacies, they must reconcile and get along. No need for conflicts of ego, etc.
Di’Anno loved his time with Iron Maiden, but following arguments with manager Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris, he finally quit the band. They asked Di’Anno to leave the gathering, indicating that the argument was still running strong. Despite his long-standing anger over the choice, he said in 2020 that he did not hold them responsible.
Di’Anno affirmed, “[I]t was brilliant because I met up with Steve’s sister Linda first, whom I hadn’t seen in about 30 years,” regarding their 2022 visit with Harris. Then Rod and Steve both exceeded my expectations; in fact, it made my entire year. It was excellent.
