What time and TV channel is today’s Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays game on?
When: 3:07 p.m. Saturday.
Where: Rogers Centre in Toronto.
TV: Bally Sports Detroit. (Have Xfinity but still looking for a way to watch BSD? Here are some other options.)
Radio: WXYT-FM (97.1). (Tigers radio affiliates).
Probable pitchers: Tigers RHP Reese Olson (4-8, 3.30 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LHP Yusei Kikuchi (4-8, 4.42).
Weather: Sunny, low 80s.
Notes for the game: Reese Olson, a second-year starter for the Tigers, will take the mound in an attempt to record his fifth victory of the year. Only six Tigers starters in the previous 100 seasons have won four games or fewer (minimum 80 innings) and posted lower first-half ERAs: Dean Chance (1971), George Zuverink (19+54) (3.09, 4-4), Elam Vangilder (1928, 2.90, 4-6), Dave Rozema (1978, 2.54, 4-4), and Hal Newhouser (1942, 2.40, 4-4).
Yusei Kikuchi of Toronto had a less successful first half; his ERA soared to 4.42 after giving up seven runs in his Sunday start against the Diamondbacks. That came after a July 9 13-strikeout game against the Giants, so there’s a chance the Tigers may have a stinker. Is there a single Tiger who is eager to take on the 33-year-old? Mark Canha, who scored a home run on Friday night after leaving early on Saturday. Over the course of 26 career plate appearances, the 35-year-old Tiger has owned Kikuchi, recording two doubles, two home runs, five walks, and five strikeouts.
The Tigers and Jays play their final game of the series at 1:37 p.m. today. Keider Montero, a rookie, will take the mound on Sunday. On Monday, the Tigers begin a four-game series at Cleveland. On Monday, the Jays will be off before hosting Tampa Bay, an AL East opponent, at Rogers Centre.
