Will Kevin De Bruyne be playing in Major League Soccer alongside Lionel Messi? Man City player considering a surprise move to San Diego FC
The Athletic notes that during their one chat, De Bruyne’s reps discussed the playmaker’s willingness to move to the city should he decide to end his career in the US. The club plans to join the Major League Soccer league the following season.
Talks with the City star’s team haven’t progressed very far, so a potential transfer is still quite some time off. The Belgium international thought about playing for City until he retired, but because his contract is up in a year, he has been linked to both the MLS and a move to Saudi Arabia. Experienced European players are increasingly choosing to relocate to the United States, particularly in the wake of Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami.
Having just assisted Pep Guardiola’s squad in winning the Premier League for a record fourth time, De Bruyne is still an essential member of the squad. Despite having a limited campaign due to injury, the 33-year-old finished with four goals and ten assists in 18 Premier League outings this year.
Given his significance to City and the fact that his contract is set to expire in 2025, it appears doubtful that De Bruyne will be moving anytime soon. This week, when they play Manchester United in the FA Cup, he will be hoping to cap off the season with yet another title.
