Deion Sanders’ bold statement that could strike fear into Colorado’s opponents

Deion Sanders‘ defining trait as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes has been his willingness to turn over the roster entirely in search of glory. Upon taking the reins last season, Sanders oversaw one of the largest roster churns in NCAA football history — and Colorado immediately improved from 1-11 to 4-8 in 2023.

The expectations are higher in 2024, when the Buffs will look to take another step forward into Big 12 Conference title contention. However, with Coach Prime‘s future at Colorado uncertain, he is taking steps to ensure that the program stays in a good place — even if he leaves following the coming season.

Coach Prime in a celebratory mood

Sanders and the Buffs received some good news over the weekend, when it was confirmed that a top recruit for 2025 had committed to Colorado. Quanell X Farrakhan Jr. will head to Boulder as part of the class of 2025, and despite a modest 259th overall ranking in On3’s respected industry rankings, he is a four-star prospect regarded as having a bright future ahead of him.

The hate directed at Deion Sanders after Colorado loss isn't about football

Sanders certainly believes in the kid, if his social media posting is to be believed. He puffed out his chest a bit on X/Twitter, saying that Colorado has a new “X factor” coming in next year’s class, in the form of this hotshot Texas recruit.

That said, Coach Prime himself could easily follow his youngest son Shedeur to the NFL next year if everything breaks right for the Buffs in 2024. Shedeur, Colorado’s star quarterback, has generated Heisman Trophy buzz entering his final collegiate season — and if her performs at that level consistently, the Buffs will be among the most explosive teams in college football, raising the Sanders stock ever higher.

In that case, it would be unlikely for Coach Prime to stick around and coach up Farrakhan Jr. in 2025.
