Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan will co-star in their last Karate Kid film.

The wait for fans is less than a year.
Filming for a new “Karate Kid” film, starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan in the franchise’s last installment, has just wrapped.

Although Macchio and Chan have acted in a number of “Karate Kid” movies over the years, it was revealed in November of last year that work on a new film had started.

The two stand side by side for the announcement as Chan declares, “We’ve got big news,” and then turns the microphone to co-star Macchio, who explains, “We’re starring in a new ‘Karate Kid’ movie together.”

The two went on to add that they are searching for the next big thing in the series, announcing the opening of a global search for the right actor to fill the lead role.

“Looking for an actor to portray Chinese or Mixed-Race Chinese and between 15-17 years old,” the website stated. He is a proficient English speaker. Mandarin conversational ability is a big plus. He’s a brilliant, tenacious, and accomplished martial artist.

While it wasn’t necessary to have acting experience, those with a background in dance, gymnastics, martial arts, or movement would likely benefit.

The Chinese actor Ben Wang, who was born in the United States, was declared the winner back in February, and filming got on at the beginning of April.

Prior to returning to the character in two follow-ups (1986 and 1989), Macchio became well-known for his portrayal of Daniel LaRusso in “The Karate Kid” in 1984. Chan portrays Mr. Han in the 2010 “Karate Kid” remake, a kung fu expert who was modeled by Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi from the original films.Prior to returning to the character in two follow-ups (1986 and 1989), Macchio became well-known for his portrayal of Daniel LaRusso in “The Karate Kid” in 1984. In addition to the remake and sequels, a Broadway version of “The Karate Kid” is now in development. The TV series “Cobra Kai,” which starred Macchio, was inspired by “The Karate Kid.”

The most recent movie, which will be the first in the series without Jerry Weintraub’s production—he passed away in 2015—will be released on May 30, 2025, in the US and Canada.

Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, and Wyatt Oleff co-star with Chan, Macchio, and Wang.
