According to Donald Glover, “It Doesn’t Make Sense.” That Sam Smith and He Have the Same Amount of BET Awards

Donald Glover criticized the BET Awards for not giving him more victories, pointing out that he had the same number of wins as white English singer-songwriter Sam Smith, while producing a lot of content that is based around Black culture.

Rapper Killer Mike was given the Album of the Year award on Sunday by Glover, who performs as “Childish Gambino” on stage. The “Atlanta” star stated he “wanted to get some things off my chest” before talking about that.

“I just feel like I should have more BET Awards; this isn’t personal.” I mean it. Glover said, “It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards.” “How much more amusing am I supposed to do? as it’s just the factual math. It’s just the factual math. It’s not really coherent.

He continued by highlighting the quantity of BET Awards trophies he had won and drawing attention to what he saw as injustices and discrepancies in the voting process concerning Black and White musicians.

“It defies logic that I have more Grammy Awards than Will Smith, but I have the same number of BET Awards as Sam Smith.” Do you people understand what that means? Glover stated. “Sam Smith and I are tied for first place at the Black Entertainment Television Awards.”

Glover’s single BET Award for Video of the Year went to “This Is America” in 2019. In the meanwhile, Smith defeated Fetty Wap, Bobby Shmurda, Tinashe, DeJ Loaf, and Bobby Shmurda to win the 2015 Grammy for Best New Artist.

Glover said that if it meant receiving more attention, he would be open to playing the lead in “Baby Boy,” one of BET’s most watched movies. Glover most likely nominated the movie because of the jeers directed at BET’s commemorative 125th broadcast of the well-known John Singleton picture in 2017.

Please let me know if I need to perform “Baby Boy” or anything else. Glover declared, “I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock and shave my head. I’ll do it.”

The BET Awards have extended their reach to creatives beyond the Black community, even though they still primarily serve and honor Black excellence in sports, movies, television, and other media. Iggy Azalea and Justin Timberlake are two more white nominees at the BET Awards in the past.

Along with his remarks, Glover unveiled the first trailer for his next movie, “Bando Stone & The New World,” which centers on the journey of a well-known musician through a dystopian society devoid of human contact—that is, until he encounters a lady and her child.
