Cincinnati Bengals Biggest Need Ahead of Camp

As far as roster talent goes, the Cincinnati Bengals take a back seat to very few across the National Football League.

Boasting a franchise quarterback, one of the best receiving casts in the league, and a solid defense leaves little to be desired roster wise in Cincinnati.

However, no roster is perfect. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports put together an article outlining each team in the AFC’s biggest need as training camp rapidly approaches in the coming weeks, and in Cincinnati, he highlighted the running back position.

“Cincinnati had a really prudent offseason with its free agent acquisitions and draft choices,” Edwards wrote. “The loss of defensive tackle D.J. Reader and offensive tackle Jonah Williams were countered with signings of Sheldon Rankins and Trent Brown. The return of safety Vonn Bell brings some stability to that unit.

The draft choices of defensive tackles Kris Jenkins Jr. and McKinnley Jackson, as well as cornerback Josh Newton, offensive tackle Amarius Mims and wide receiver Jermaine Burton add depth at critical positions. Following the trade of running back Joe Mixon, the Bengals signed Zack Moss from Indianapolis. They need him to have a big season as the go-to option or second-year runner Chase Brown will be forced into action.”

Chase Brown has been praised repeatedly by the coaching staff as the team looks to move on from the Joe Mixon era. For the first time in a very long time, it looks like a running back committee situation between Zack Moss and Brown.

According to Edwards, however, the Bengals need to try to address the situation further.
