The first song from Deep Purple’s upcoming studio album, “=1,” called “Portable Door,” is out now. Streaming and an instant gratification track are now offered for the new song with every ‘=1’ download pre-order.
The film, which was directed by Leo Feimer and produced by the Berlin-based firm Mutter & Vater, features Deep Purple performing live against the backdrop of the new album artwork. It captures the band’s soul as they share a stage and perform together.
The band’s concept of unity despite complication is embodied in the mysterious album title “=1,” which portends an album that will undoubtedly have a significant impact on their five-decade hard rock heritage. “=1,” produced by the venerable Bob Ezrin once more, nails the essence of the ultimate original Deep Purple sound without leaning on nostalgia.
Guitarist Simon McBride provided some insight into the sound direction of their next album in a recent interview, stating: “The new album will reflect what the five of us create in the rehearsal room.” Many of the songs, including “Portable Door,” were composed in the first few sessions and came complete in as little as five or ten minutes. Everything was very simple and organic.
With a focus on the natural flow of Deep Purple’s songwriting, frontman Ian Gillan continued, saying, “Our best songs have always been those that were written in no time at all.” As usual, we crafted the songs and played what felt right.
This year, as part of their “=1 MORE TIME” tour, Deep Purple will play more than 60 shows all around the world in honor of the new album.
This is Deep Purple at the top of their game, with three No. 1 albums in a row. With more than a million copies sold globally over the albums “Now WHAT?! (2013), “inFinite” (2017), and “Whoosh!” (2020), Deep Purple stands as one of the most successful rock bands currently performing. “Whoosh!”, the newest studio album, peaked at number one on album charts in seven countries and in the top ten in a further twelve.
