West Brom are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday attacking midfielder Josh Windass on a free transfer, Birmingham World understands.

The 30-year-old winger looked set to sign a new contract at Hillsborough but he’s now expected to depart following a stall in talks. Windass’ current deal expires on June 30 and there are a whole host of Championship clubs seeking his signature.

It’s understood West Brom are keen and have made contact with the player’s representatives to gauge his level of interest in a move. The Baggies hope Windass can solve an issue as they are on the hunt for a new attacking-minded midfielder who can also play on the left.

Birmingham locking horns with West Brom for Windass

Local rivals Birmingham are hopeful of completing an audacious move for Windass, as per our sister publication The Star. Blues have shown an interest for several weeks and talks are expected to progress in the next few days. The League One outfit will set out to convince Windass to drop down a division.

It awaits to be seen what the player’s preference is but West Brom and Birmingham are not the only teams in the picture. Wednesday are still trying to persuade Windass to stay, while The Star states several of Albion’s Championship rivals have expressed an interest.
