Good News; Experts explains why Dr Pepper is Setting the page to be the best America Soda
Exciting news for Dr Pepper lovers as the soda tied with Pepsi to become America’s second favorite soft drink. Coca-Cola remains the No. 1 soda in America, according to Beverage Digest, a trade publication, and shared by the Wall Street Journal.
According to reports, Texas’ Dr. Pepper has recently been gaining in market share of soft drinks with Dr Pepper and Pepsi both having 8.3%. Dr Pepper was technically ahead last year. In tow was Sprite at 8.1% and Diet Coke at 7.8%, both owned by Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola remained on the carbonated throne, capturing 19.2% of the market share.
The success of Dr Pepper can be attributed to “big marketing investments, novel flavors and a quirk in Dr Pepper’s distribution,” according to the Wall Street Journal report. The investments allowed the drink to be on more soda fountains than any other brand, unlike its competitors, which had exclusive contracts with certain chains.
The Texas-founded soda giant, with its promises of 23 peppery blended flavors, was founded in Waco in 1885, preceding both Coke and Pepsi. The new soda on the block offered consumers a spicy alternative to the beloved colas.
Dr Pepper headquarters moved to Dallas before eventually merging with Seven-Up and relocating to Plano. The two brands are now owned by Cadbury Schweppes.
