– Two mini horses were shot on a farm in Alderson, Greenbrier County.
According to the farm’s owner, Carie Ortman, she has three regular-sized horses and three mini-horses on her farm. Ortman says she went to check on her animals at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 14, and upon arrival, she found one of her mini horses covered in blood, dead, and another missing.
Ortman tells WVVA that she followed a blood trail into the woods, where she found that her 7-year-old mini horse, Mr. Ed, had been shot twice. One shot went through his jaw and the other through his neck.
It was not immediately clear if Mr. Ed would have to be put down or not after a local vet determined that his jaw had been shattered. Ortman says the vet is calling Mr. Ed ‘a walking miracle’ because he is able to eat and drink with assistance. Mr. Ed will have to be operated on to remove the bone fragments in his injured jaw and may have to receive additional treatments in Blacksburg, Virginia, during his long road to recovery.
Ortman says this whole experience has been a nightmare; and while she wants justice to be served, she is placing all her energy on Mr. Ed’s recovery.
WVVA confirmed with the West Virginia State Police that they are investigating this.
Ortman has set up a GoFundMe to cover the expensive medical costs. If you would like to contribute to helping Mr. Ed recover,
