Sheffield Wednesday interested in former Cardiff City striker now playing in La Liga

There is competition from other Championship teams for a La Liga forward, which is of interest to Sheffield Wednesday.

After making a thrilling comeback in the Championship the previous year, Sheffield Wednesday is now hoping to capitalize on their renewed confidence.
Early in the summer window, Danny Rohl has continued his transfer business, and three deals have already been announced at S6.

Three players have gone through Hillsborough’s doors: Yan Valery, Max Lowe, and Ben Hamer. After his excellent 2023–24 season with Angers in France, Wednesdayites are particularly excited about Yan Valery.

In north Sheffield, well-known players have also been retained; fans’ favorites Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have committed to playing for Wednesday in the upcoming campaign.

Now that he’s focused on offensive power, Rohl is searching overseas for a replacement striker.

Sheffield: Who is it? Wednesday’s intended target is Sory Kaba
According to Darren Witcoop, Sheffield Wednesday is apparently considering Las Palmas attacker Sory Kaba.

The previous loanee Ike Ugbo has an alternative in the Guinean international striker, after the Troyes attacker was reportedly priced out of a trade.

During the first few games of the 2023–24 La Liga season, Kaba saw a lot of action, but he was unable to establish himself ahead of former Everton striker Sandro Ramirez.

During the second part of the 2022–2023 season, the 28-year-old striker played in the Championship with Cardiff City, where he scored an outstanding eight goals in 17 games.

Is Sory Kaba the best striker Sheffield Wednesday has signed?
Kaba’s lack of playing time in La Liga the previous season raises the possibility that the level was too high for the Guinean, who had trouble finding his game for the Spanish team.

Nonetheless, his tenure with Cardiff City during the latter part of the 2022–2023 season is admirable, as seen by his remarkable run of seven goals in nine games in April of that year.

He became a fan favorite during his brief but brilliant stint in south Wales, saving Cardiff City from relegation.

Standing at 6ft 3ins, Kaba could be a real threat from Bannan’s set pieces, as well as having the ability of holding up the ball, something that could bring out the best in wide men Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba next season.

His style of play and consistent form when fashioning his trade in England is one that should bring excitement to Wednesdayites, if he can hit the ground running then he could be crucial in Wednesday building on last season’s successes under Rohl.

Dejphon Chansiri’s transfer budget for a new striker at Sheffield Wednesday revealed

Sheffield Wednesday look set to spend on a new striker this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday have already kick-started their summer spending spree, bringing in Yan Valery on a permanent deal from Ligue 1 side Angers. The transfer fee involved has not been reported. But previous reports revealed that Standard Liege were eyeing a £500,000 loan-to-buy offer for the Tunisian, which could be a rough estimate of what the Owls have paid.

Valery becomes Danny Rohl’s third signing of the summer and his third permanent signing as Sheffield Wednesday manager, after the likes of Ben Hamer and Max Lowe joined on free transfers.

Fans are now eagerly waiting to see what additions Rohl can make further up the pitch with several names linked with summer moves to Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday are in talks to re-sign Ian Poveda on a free transfer, whilst the Owls are also keen to re-sign Ike Ugbo on a permanent deal.

Dejphon Chansiri ready to spend £1.5million on new Sheffield Wednesday striker
Sheffield Wednesday appear to have been in the market for a marquee striker for some time now; Dejphon Chansiri was reportedly ready to spend £30,000-a-week on a loan striker in January.

And Rohl will certainly need new strikers this summer with Ugbo having returned to parent club Troyes, for the time being, and with Josh Windass’ out of contract at the end of this month.

Alan Nixon previously revealed that Sheffield Wednesday have a few options to choose from and that the club will spend on the right striker.

Nixon has now revealed that Chansiri is ready to spend between £1-1.5million on a new striker signing at Hillsborough this summer.

The problem Sheffield Wednesday will encounter this summer
Every transfer window, it seems as though prolific strikers are the most in demand players. Yet they seem to be the most few and far between.

Rohl unearthed one in Ugbo last season. How much Troyes will want for him this summer, compared to how much they can realistically ask for as a third tier team, remains to be seen.

£1.5million could be enough to cover the cost, but with interest rife, Sheffield Wednesday could soon get into a bidding war, and that may quicky price them out of Ugbo and indeed many other targets.

Rohl and head of recruitment Kevin Beadell need to be quick and efficient in the transfer market this summer, and they’ll likely need to scour more niche markets to ensure they don’t face overwhelming competition for signings.

But £1.5million on a new striker, after securing a new contract for Rohl and then signing Valery, marks a definite change in attitudes from owner Chansiri.
