“The Over and Out Tour” is the name of Jeff Lynne’s ELO’s farewell tour. Produced by Live Nation, the 27-date tour will begin on August 24 in Palm Desert, California, and will traverse North America before coming to an end on October 25 in Los Angeles.
The general onsale will commence on Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m. local time, while the artist presale will start on Wednesday, March 20 at 10 a.m. Special VIP experiences will go on sale on March 20 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Although no dates outside of North America have been revealed, it is likely that the group will tour Europe and maybe other regions after the North American performances.
Regarding the group’s 2018 tour, Variety commented, “A brilliant catalog returns to U.S. stages and gives the strings-starved people what they want.” “The ELO catalog is self-explanatory. and it was an amazing sight to see… in a 19-song performance that recapped the best that the 1970s had to offer in terms of genuine Beatles-level music.
From the ashes of the iconic rock group the Move, singer/multi-instrumentalists Lynne and Roy Wood, together with drummer Bev Bevan, established ELO, initially known as the Electric Light Orchestra, in 1972 with the goal of combining rock music with classical instruments. After Wood left the group after just one album, Lynne took over as lead singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist. The group went on to achieve enormous success throughout the 1970s with songs like “Evil Woman,” “Strange Magic,” “Living Thing,” “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Telephone Line,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” and more.
Following the group’s formal dissolution in 1986, Lynne pursued a solo career and produced several songs for artists such as George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Bryan Adams, and even two new Beatles tracks included on the “Anthology” series that aired from 1995 to 1996. He also played with Bob Dylan, Petty, Harrison, and Orbison in the 1980s all-star band the Traveling Wilburys. Lynne holds memberships in both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Lynne revived the ELO brand in 2001, with himself and longtime keyboardist Richard Tandy as the only remaining early members, for the album “Zoom” (featuring Harrison and Starr) and tour. He did so again in 2014 and has toured extensively and released two albums with the group, 2015’s “Alone in the Universe” and 2019’s “From Out of Nowhere.”
