Done Deal; A phenomenal center player joins Seattle Seawolves as interim Head Coach

The former Wire centre has been brought in for the remainder of 2023 to assist interim head coach Gary Chambers and assistant Richard Marshall, with a specific focus on attack.

However, it was confirmed at the time of his arrival that his appointment was merely a temporary one given he had already secured a position overseas for 2024.

That position has now been revealed – Gleeson will move to the United States to become a senior coach of the Seattle Seawolves side in the Major League Rugby competition.

Gleeson, who developed his coaching career in the 15-man code with stints as an attack coach for both Wasps and the England national side, is making a comeback to rugby union.

He returned to league action earlier this year with Featherstone and then returned to Warrington, where he played for more than a century from 2004 to 2009.

“I’m really excited to join Seattle Seawolves and to work with the players, Clarkie (Seawolves head coach Allen Clarke) and the whole management team,” Gleeson said.

“This is a great opportunity to broaden and enhance my coaching development with Clarkie.

“I can’t wait to get out there, work hard and add to the way the team plays rugby.”

Major League Rugby – the top level of rugby union in America – had its inaugural season in 2018 and will expand to 13 teams for the 2024 campaign.

The Seawolves won the first two championship titles in 2018 and 2019 and were losing finalists in 2022.
